Why You Need a VPN to Stream French Open on Sony LIV
Sony Pictures Networks India holds the exclusive media rights for Roland-Garros across the Indian subcontinent. Here is why using a VPN is essential for tennis enthusiasts:
Bypass Regional Geo-Blocks
If you are an Indian expat or vacationing in the US, UK, Canada, or Australia, Sony LIV displays: “We are not available in your region yet.” A VPN restores access instantly with an Indian IP address.
Most Economical Grand Slam Pass
Sony LIV Premium offers the most affordable way to watch the entire 15-day French Open tournament legally compared to Western cable networks or expensive passes like Peacock, TNT Sports, or Eurosport.
Prevent ISP Bandwidth Throttling
Broadband and cellular ISPs often throttle live video streams during high-profile matches. VPN encryption masks your traffic type, keeping your speeds unaffected.
Protect Public Wi-Fi
Streaming on unsecured hotel, airport, or cafe Wi-Fi networks leaves your logins vulnerable. A VPN wraps your connection in military-grade AES-256 encryption.

Switch Server Locations
Disconnect and connect to another Indian virtual node (e.g., switch from Virtual India via Singapore to Virtual India via UK) to obtain an unflagged IP address.
Clear Cache & Cookies
Old browser cookies store your real geographic location. Clear your browser cache and cookies, or open Sony LIV inside a private Incognito window.
Enable Leak Protection
Verify that your VPN app has IPv6 leak protection and DNS leak protection enabled so your actual ISP address is never exposed to Sony LIV.
Change VPN Protocol
Switch your VPN protocol from WireGuard to OpenVPN (UDP/TCP) or Lightway. Some streaming platforms inspect protocol signatures more aggressively.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about streaming the French Open on Sony LIV with a VPN.
Can I watch the French Open on Sony LIV outside India?
Yes. By connecting to a VPN with virtual Indian servers (like ExpressVPN or NordVPN), your internet traffic is routed through India, allowing you to access your Sony LIV subscription from anywhere in the world.
Which commentary languages are available for Roland-Garros on Sony LIV?
Sony LIV provides live English commentary across show courts, along with Hindi commentary for featured matches on Sony Sports Ten 3.
Why do premium VPNs use virtual servers for India?
India’s CERT-In directives require VPN providers with physical servers in India to log user identities and activity. Leading VPNs removed their physical hardware and deployed offshore virtual servers in Singapore and the UK to protect privacy while still providing authentic Indian IP addresses.
Can I use a free VPN to stream Roland-Garros on Sony LIV?
Free VPNs rarely support Indian server locations due to high routing expenses. They also come with strict bandwidth limits (typically 500MB), slow speeds that cause severe buffering, and are easily detected and blocked by Sony LIV.
Is Sony LIV free for French Open matches?
While Sony LIV occasionally offers short 5-minute preview clips, uninterrupted live coverage of Roland-Garros matches requires an active Sony LIV Premium or Mobile plan.
How can I watch other Grand Slams like the Australian Open?
You can watch the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open using the exact same VPN setup. Check out our dedicated Australian Open Hub and master Tennis Streaming Hub for broadcaster schedules and setup instructions.
